Sharing life-saving Bowel Cancer Awareness messages with Karrakatta Club, Perth.
On 14 July, Jodi Lee Foundation Founder and Chair, Nick Lee OAM, was honoured to speak at the Karrakatta Club in Perth, sharing Jodi’s story and highlighting the importance of bowel cancer prevention and early detection.
Established in 1894, the Karrakatta Club is Australia’s longest-established women’s club and has a proud history of fostering education, leadership and community connection. We were delighted to have the opportunity to share our life-saving message with its members.
Nick spoke about the Foundation’s mission to ensure more Australians understand that bowel cancer is not just a disease that affects older people. Through education and advocacy, the Foundation continues to encourage Australians to know the symptoms, understand their risk, and participate in regular screening, which saves lives.
We are grateful to the members of the Karrakatta Club for their warm welcome, engagement and support of our message. Following the presentation, the Karrakatta Club published the following article about our visit.

“Jodi’s Legacy: Raising Awareness and Saving Lives Through Early Detection of a Killer Disease
Nick Lee OAM is founder and Chair of the Jodi Lee Foundation, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness that bowel cancer does not only happen to people over 50 but many times, tragically, much earlier.
The Foundation was established in memory of Nick wife, Jodi, who heartbreakingly passed away from bowel cancer at just 41 years of age when their two little children were very young. The Foundation educates the community about risk factors, encouraging regular screening to help save lives. Many mistakenly believe that bowel cancer only affects older adults, but it can and does occur in younger people. Regular screening is simple, accessible, and can make a life-saving difference. When bowel cancer is detected early, treatment outcomes are significantly improved. Nick’s message was clear: bowel cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when detected early, and regular screening can save lives, with bowel cancer screening kits available from participating pharmacies or they can be ordered through the Jodi Lee Foundation’s website. Jenny Corr, our member who gave the Vote of Thanks has already ordered kits for all her family, and, as a trained nurse urges us all to follow.”
We thank the Karrakatta Club for providing this opportunity to connect with its members and help spread this important health message. Every conversation about bowel cancer awareness brings us one step closer to detecting more cancers early and saving more lives.
