Whyalla & Port Augusta – Gavin’s here and he’s got an important message.
It’s time to give TWO SH!TS about bowel cancer.
Thanks to funding from Preventive Health SA, we’re on the ground in Whyalla and Port Augusta until this Sunday as part of our Talking Sh!t campaign across regional South Australia. Led by our ambassador, AFL legend and contemporary Indigenous artist Gavin Wanganeen, since this morning we’ve been sharing life‑saving messages, breaking down taboos, and connecting with local communities – one conversation at a time.

Less than half of eligible Australians aged 45–74 are completing their FREE bowel screening test. The rates are even lower in regional areas – 41.4% in the Eyre Peninsula region (which includes Whyalla) and 35.1% in Outback North & East region (which includes Port Augusta). We’re determined to change that.Bowel cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Australia, but the good news is that if detected early, up to 99% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated, or even prevented.

The bowel screening test is easy to complete at home. The test is not a test for cancer, but instead looks for microscopic traces of blood across samples taken from two separate bowel movements. Giving two sh!ts could quite literally save your life.
