Welcome to our new Ambassador, Wes Agar.

We’re proud to introduce cricketer Wes Agar as the newest Ambassador for the Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation.

“My connection to bowel cancer comes from my mother’s side of the family.

My uncle, Rowan, was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 46, after visiting his GP because he was feeling unwell. At the time, there was no known family history of the disease. Tragically, he lost his battle four years later, just one month before his 51st birthday.

Not long after, my grandmother, Shelagh Hewawissa, was also diagnosed. After initially being treated for other possible causes, it was only when she saw a specialist that doctors discovered she had cancer of the bowel. Despite undergoing major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she sadly passed away just eight months after my uncle.

Three months after my grandmother’s passing, my grandfather began experiencing stomach pains. After seeing a specialist, doctors discovered a non-malignant tumour in his bowel, about the size of a pear. He underwent bowel resection surgery and later had a reversal operation six months afterwards. Thankfully, he did not require any further treatment.

Because of this history, bowel cancer has had a profound impact on my family. It is the reason I feel such a strong connection to the Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation and why I am incredibly proud to support its mission.

I feel privileged to be a Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation Ambassador, and to play a role in encouraging others to get checked.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in our society, yet it is still not talked about enough. By sharing stories, raising awareness, and promoting early screening, we can help break the stigma and ensure more people get the checks they need.”

Thank you, Wes. We’re incredibly grateful for your support and honoured to have you as part of the Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation family.
