We talk about poo, because it saves lives.
No one wants to talk about poo, but we do, because it saves lives.
The Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation was founded in 2010, after the heartbreaking loss of Jodi Lee – a vibrant wife, mother, daughter, and friend, who passed away from bowel cancer at just 41.
Jodi acted quickly when she experienced constipation, abdominal pain and bloating, but her cancer was already advanced. Her story might have had a different ending if her cancer had been detected early.
Today, bowel cancer is the #1 cancer killer of Australians aged 25–44, and the second-leading cause of cancer death nationwide. These stats are devastating. We’re committed to changing them.
That’s why we exist.
We educate Australians to:
View your poo – Yes, really. Changes in your bowel habits, blood in your poo, on the paper, or in the toilet are signs you should never ignore. See your GP.
Trust your gut – You know your body best. Bowel cancer symptoms can be subtle, so see your GP asap and ask they rule out bowel cancer. Early detection saves lives.
Know your family history – A family link to bowel cancer increases your risk. Talk to your GP about your family history and your screening options.
Do a bowel screening test – If you’re aged 45–74, you’re eligible for a free test. It’s quick, easy, and could save your life. And if you’re not in that age group, you can order a $45 test on our website. Encourage your family and friends who are eligible for the free test to do theirs.
Talk Sh!t – Talking about bowel cancer and asking those around you if they’ve done their bowel screening saves lives.
We started with Jodi’s story. Since then, we’ve shared many more. We speak in workplaces, communities, and at events to spark life-saving conversations about bowel cancer symptoms, screening, and prevention.
Through our awareness campaigns like Talking Sh!t, View Your Poo!, Trust Your Gut and our workplace education program, we’re sparking life‑saving conversations across Australia.
This work saves lives.
And we’re just getting started.
New awareness campaigns, programs and initiatives are on the way — and we can’t wait to bring them to you.
Let’s talk about poo.
Let’s talk about bowel cancer.
Let’s change the stats.
