Congratulations to Nick Dugmore and Alana Dales on the launch of The Power of Awareness Podcast, which aims to raise much-needed awareness about bowel cancer through real, raw, and inspiring conversations.

Alana was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer at age 35 and Nick was 39 years old when he was diagnosed with stage 3.

Nick and Alana knew each other from school, but it wasn’t until years later – after both received life-changing bowel cancer diagnoses – that they reconnected. Through their shared experience, they’ve created a powerful platform to shine a light on early detection and the importance of knowing the signs of bowel cancer.

“The goal of our podcast is to assist you when you face any kind of difficulty in your life. And to raise awareness about bowel cancer. It has been so much fun and brought so much energy right at the perfect time” said Nick.

Nick and Alana created the podcast to raise awareness that bowel cancer is the number one cancer killer of people aged 25-44. Another is to share stories from incredible humans who’ve faced their own challenges. Listeners will learn the tactics they used to heal from whatever life threw their way.

The first guest is world-renowned big wave surfer Mark Mathews, who speaks about fear and how to navigate it. Mark has learned to manage acute fear surfing the world’s biggest waves, and chronic fear, after nearly losing his life in a traumatic incident where an artery in his leg was severed.

The podcast officially launched last Saturday at Stoke Wines and Jodi Lee Foundation was honoured to contribute resources on bowel cancer and its symptoms for including in their two-packs of wines (‘Poo-Packs’) sold on the day, to help educate and support both event guests and the wider community.

Nick and Alana, your stories and those you share are already making an incredible impact.
Thank you for using your voices to help others and raise awareness.
