Honouring Rick Kolb and the Legacy of the Kolby Cup
This February, we honour Rick Kolb – a beloved husband, father, friend and teacher whose memory continues to live on through everyone who came to know him.
Rick was diagnosed with bowel cancer in December 2018 at just 35 years old. Only six months later, in May 2019, he sadly passed away, leaving behind his wife, Krystal, and their two beautiful children, Harper, 2 at the time, and Ashton – who had been born only 5 weeks earlier. Rick’s passing came as a devastating shock to everyone who knew him.
Since then, Rick’s closest mates have come together every year to honour his life through the Kolby Cup – a golf tournament held on the second weekend of February, near Rick’s birthday. Led with enormous heart and dedication by Rick’s mates, the Kolby Cup has become a meaningful tradition that brings together around 40 golfers from Rick’s family, high school mates, sporting clubs and colleagues.
The Kolby Cup isn’t just a day of golf. It’s a day to come together, to remember and share stories of Rick and for his children to know how much their Dad was loved. It’s also a powerful reminder to look after your health, to talk about bowel cancer openly, and to support one another. Their commitment to honouring Rick and creating impact in his name is something truly special.
This year’s event will be held this Saturday 14 February at Waterford Valley Golf Club in Knoxfield, followed by a family lunch – a tradition that reflects the love, connection and community Rick valued so deeply.
To the Kolby Cup crew, and to Rick’s family – thank you for continuing his legacy with such heart. May Rick’s legacy continue to shine brightly through this incredible community.
