Thanks to funding from Preventive Health SA our bold and cheeky Talking Sh!t campaign is heading to Port Augusta next week – from Friday 17 to Saturday 18 April.

Led by our ambassador, AFL legend and contemporary Indigenous artist Gavin Wanganeen, our team will be sharing life-saving messages and connecting with local communities in Port Augusta.

In Australia, less than half of eligible 45–74 year-olds are completing their free bowel screening test available through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The rates are even lower in regional and remote communities (35.1% in the Outback North & East region, which includes Port Augusta). We are determined to change that.

Every conversation that raises awareness matters, and every promise to complete the test brings us closer to saving lives. We’re always grateful to everyone who stops by, welcomes us, joins the conversation and is happy to ‘talk sh!t’. Together, we’re breaking down barriers and making bowel cancer prevention and early detection a priority.

PORT AUGUSTA LOCATIONS:

Friday 17 April

– 11am-1pm: Pika Wiya – BBQ lunch provided (please RSVP for catering purposes – phone (08) 8642 9991).

– 5pm-8.30pm: South Augusta Football Club.

Saturday 18 April

– 8am-10am: Mamma Lou’s

– 10.30am-3pm: Bunnings Port Augusta – with a BBQ hosted by South Augusta Football Club.

Bowel cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Australia, and the #1 cancer killer of people aged 25–49. But if detected early, up to 99% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated, or even prevented.

The bowel screening test is easy to complete at home. The test is not a test for cancer, but instead looks for microscopic traces of blood across samples taken from two separate bowel movements. Giving two sh!ts could quite literally save your life.
