Almost a month ago we finished The JLF Trek at the stunning Fox Gordon winery in the Adelaide Hills, a long-time supporter of the Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation. We asked Rachel Atkins what to see, do and drink at Fox Gordon, whether it’s for the day, or a weekend getaway at one of the secret locations on their vineyard.
What can people expect when they come to Fox Gordon? A sensational view, a large open lawn space, plus experiences that range from hitting golf balls, feeding alpacas and of course great wines.
Which wine do you recommend for an autumn day – a summers day? Autumn in the Adelaide Hills means orchards, and gardens have an abundance of strawberries, figs and pears and apples. These flavours pair beautifully with our Italian varieties such as Fiano and Nero d’Avola. The Adelaide Hills also produces world class cool climate elegant Sauvignon Blanc. Our “Sassy” is the perfect high summer drink of choice.
What is something you may not expect when you visit Fox Gordon? We have some very special accommodation “hidden” on the property in two spectacular spots for the perfect Kuitpo getaway.
What can people experience when coming to Kuitpo Forest? Kuitpo is home to many diverse hiking trails for leisure walks, right through to more advance hikes and horse riding trials. The pine and native forests are ideal spaces to awaken your senses, and be present and connected with nature. They are very special, serene places.
How did you become involved with the Jodi Lee Bowel Cancer Foundation? I have known the founders of the JLF since I was a teenager and have been honoured to be involved with their functions and events for many years.
What was your highlight of The JLF Trek SA 2020? Seeing the camaraderie, elevation and genuine mateship shown by the participants, borne from the desire to be kind.
